Pregnant Elephant Craved from Soap Stone

Soapstone, also known as talc-schist, Steatite or Soaprock, is a metamorphic rock primarily composed of talc, a soft mineral that is a hydrous magnesium silicate (Mg3Si4O10(OH)2). It often contains varying amounts of chlorite, pyroxenes, micas, and carbonates. The mineral composition gives soapstone its characteristic smooth, soapy feel, which is where it gets its name. Soapstone is highly heat-resistant, making it an excellent material for use in stoves, countertops, and sculptures. Its ability to absorb and retain heat is one reason it's been used in traditional cooking and heating applications for centuries.
Metaphysically, soapstone is thought to hold a calming, grounding energy. It is often associated with the root chakra, promoting stability and emotional balance. Because of its soft and smooth nature, soapstone is considered a symbol of soothing energy, helping to release stress and tension. Some cultures believe it enhances the flow of positive energy, providing clarity and fostering peacefulness. Whether used for its physical properties or for its symbolic significance, soapstone remains an enduring material with both practical and spiritual value.
