Magnetic Hematite looks very much like Hematite, as they share similar chemical compositions, but it is, in fact, man-made.
They Heat iron oxide at a very high temperature. When the Hematite is heated, strong magnets are introduced to create 'Magnetism.'
Some 'Magnetic Hematite' can also be coated. This one is Silver or plain, so it has not been coated.
Or though Man Made, they are interesting and SO much fun for little and BIG kids alike.
