Pietersite is a strikingly beautiful gemstone, scientifically classified as a variety of chalcedony, a mineral from the quartz family. It is composed primarily of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and is characterized by its swirling patterns of golden, blue, and brown hues. The stone is often referred to as the "Tempest Stone" because of its stormy appearance, created by the interplay of colours that resemble a turbulent sky. Pietersite is formed from the combination of jasper, tiger's eye, and hawk's eye, with a chatoyant (shimmering) effect that makes the stone particularly mesmerizing when viewed from different angles.
